After breakfast Amman sightseeing includes the ruins of the amphitheater, the citadel and the Ummayad Palace. Later drive to the city of the Thousand Columns: Jerash, or ancient Gerasa. Explore the hidden beauty of this stunning Greco-Roman site. After Jerash, visit Ajloun village with its Saladin castle, known as Qal’at Ar-Rabad. The fortress was built by Saladin’s nephew, and a fine example of Islamic architecture. From its hilltop position, it dominates the northern Jordan Valley. After breakfast explore Jordan’s desert castle scattered throughout the plains to the east of Amman. The desert castles are actually a string of palaces, forts and estates dating from the 7th -8th C. Visit historic Azraq Castle located in the village of North Azraq. Close to a precious water source and strategically located close to the borders of several countries the site has been occupied by numerous civilizations, including the Umayyads, Ayyubids and Ottomans.
T. E. Lawrence…aka Lawrence of Arabia, used the castle as his military base during the Arab Revolt against the Turks. Overnight at The Azraq Lodge, a converted 1940 British Military field hospital. After lunch an Azraq Mudflat biking tour. It is considered one of the most beautiful and fascinating guided biking tours. Starting from Lodge cycle through the wetland, and learn about the history of the Oasis and its importance for bird migration, making Azraq is one of the most important Oasis in the world.
After Madaba, City of Mosaics, drive to Mount Nebo with its breathtaking views. From here Moses had his final gaze over the Holy Land and Dead Sea Basin. Enjoy afternoon at leisure on the shores of the Dead Sea followed by lunch at O- Beach resort. Later drive to Mujib Biosphere Reserve with overnight at Wadi Al Mujib chalets.
After an early breakfast hike inside Wadi Mujib Reserve and explore the natural habitat of the area. The reserve is a mix of steep cliffs with gorges cutting through rocky plateau. Streams run to the Dead Sea. 10 species of carnivore live here along with over 300 documented plants. It’s also a vital home for migratory birds. Then drive to Wadi Feynan Eco-Lodge. After breakfast hike to examine some of the oldest copper mines in the world to learn how vast deposits of copper were discovered, transported, smelted, mined and processed at Feynan by ancient civilizations. Imagine the scene when Roman slave labourers struggled to survive in the harsh conditions! After lunch drive to Dana Natural Reserve and explore the old stone built village of Dana, a successful social experiment to rejuvenate a dying village aided by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. After breakfast drive to Petra. A 2 hours guided sightseeing tour takes you through the architectural and spiritual wonders of this majestic place. Discover the secrets of the Nabateans, see, the truly stunning sandstone ‘Al- Khazneh’(the Treasury), soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a Roman theatre, large and small houses and burial chambers. After lunch, at a local restaurant, the afternoon is at leisure. Overnight at The Petra Guest House.
After breakfast drive to the stunning Wadi Rum, with its wonderful desert landscape. Enroute visit Little Petra, a few kilometers from Petra and literally hidden away in the centre of a mountain. This ‘miniature’ Petra contains a number of exceedingly well-preserved tombs. Then, in Wadi Rum, take a 2 hour 4×4 Jeep ride to explore the starkly beautiful land, filled with amazing rock formations, spectacular sand dunes and shades of Lawrence of Arabia! Overnight stay at The Sun City Camp.
After breakfast climb to Um Al Dami, Jordan’s highest peak with its wonderful panoramic views. Enjoy your pack lunch at the highest point of Jordan. Return to the village of Wadi Rum and drive to Aqaba. Stay at The Marina Plaza Resort for 3 nights.
Two days at leisure to relax on sunny shores. Perhaps try your hand at scuba diving, snorkeling or wind surfing.
